HARPER INDUSTRIES RECEIVES AE 50 AWARD FOR ATM 162

The American Society for Agricultural and Biological Engineering (ASABE), at its national conference in Providence, Rhode Island on June 30, awarded Harper Industries with one of its annual AE 50 awards for exceptional design innovation for Harper’s ATM (All Terrain Mower) 162.  Other companies honored included John Deere, Case New Holland and Agco.

The ATM 162 is a three wheel drive version of Harper’s popular, but smaller, ATM 72LC.  The 162 has a 13.5 foot cut width that mows slopes up to 34 degrees with safety and comfort.  The unit is all hydraulically driven and comes complete with a climate controlled cab.  It is powered by a 99 hp Cummins diesel.  Heber Ramer, Harper’s chief engineer states  “To be an integral part of the interdisciplinary team that developed the ATM 162 was tremendously rewarding for me. We combined the knowledge of hydraulics, electricity, safety, operator comfort and productivity into a unit that takes hillside mowing several steps forward.”

Thus far, the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) is the largest user of ATM 162s, with units located in Garden City, Chanute, Iola & Pittsburg, Hutchinson, and Norton.  KDOT was involved with Harper In the design phase of this project and assisted with testing of some of the early prototypes.  The City of Harper maintenance crew also assisted in the testing phase of the ATM 162.

Bret Walker, Harper Industries’ Turf Territory Manager, states “There is no other machine out there that is as efficient and safe as our 162.  It transfers the weight of the machine into the hillside allowing extreme slope mowing while still possessing the ability to outperform the conventional tractor and bat-wing application.  With a 99 horse power Cummins engine and fully integrated hydraulic system, the ATM 162 delivers efficient and safe mowing for all extreme slope applications.” 

SELF PROPELLED SWEEPER/VACUUM

Equipped with its own powerful 38 HP Kohler engine and 3.25-cubic-yards hopper, the new TV30 Self-Propelled Sweeper offers maneuverability that simply can’t be attained with a tow vehicle and a pull-type unit. Yet, it provides the same Recirculating Air System performance as our towed models.

The TV 30 also offers a new level of adaptability, thanks to a line of attachments that includes a standard-equipment 60-inch sweeper brush; an optional rubber-finger attachment for raking tall grass, and a verti-cut option that performs two jobs in one pass. The hopper even lifts to a height of six feet to dump directly into a cart or waste dumpster - avoiding the need to handle material twice.
